Hey Dad’s. What’s your bedtime ritual with your kid(s)?

Hey Dad’s! Tonight, I was thinking through my bedtime ritual with my daughter and wondered what you do? Maybe you do something special that I could add to my nighttime to mix it up.

Here’s what my night usually looks like with my almost-two year-old:

  • Dinner
  • Playtime
  • PJ’s
  • Brush the teeth
  • Wave in the mirror while I help her brush her teeth
  • Play with some toys
  • Read two books, okay three, okay maybe five
  • Put her in her crib
  • Situate her seven stuffed animals (I counted them tonight), two blankets and pillow
  • Sing Jesus Loves You to her, maybe two times
  • Blow kisses anywhere from two to 11 times
  • Say I love you and see you in the morning
  • Lights Out
  • PS. “I love you” one more time

Then I walk down the stairs and 9 times out of 10, I have to tell my wife how sweet that girl is.

What’s your bedtime ritual?

Great stuff. Our ritual is very close to this. My son likes to get that last bit of energy out and play chase. Then he's exhausted and wants to lay down and read a book. Can't WAIT to get home and get back to life as normal. I miss my 2 kids so bad it hurts! Thanks for the post.

Jeremy…I feel for ya buddy. Being gone that long has to be a challenge. Sorry if my post brings back a flood of desire to be home RIGHT NOW! Stay the course my friend. I think of you often.

My wife just said, "you don't pray with her?" Isn't Jesus Loves You a prayer?

Hey Bro – Our ritual is pretty much the same thing every night. We spend 30 minutes trying to get them in bed, oh yeah drink of water, oh yeah…cuddly toy, oh yeah…night light, oh yeah…music. It's constant. The one thing the kids demand is that we both pray with them. It is something so meaningful to me because my parents didn't pray with me at night. Jaxon is going to Summer Camp for the first time this summer and we explained that he will stay in a room with other boys and have a counselor there. His one question, "but someone will pray with me at night right???" What a gift.

Enjoy every moment with them. We are so blessed to have these gifts in our lives for this season.

    Love you bro!
